JACKSONVILLE
JAGUARS 2006 ROSTER - 12/9/06
I'm keeping this updated roster
and cap estimate somewhere on the board at all times. Return to this
post (if it's buried, just search for a lesser known player) anytime
you want to see what the latest roster and salary cap figure looks
like, as I edit it often.
Having placed Leftwich on IR, and
having extended Wrighster’s contract, the Jaguars are estimated
at $5.55 mil under an estimated $105 mil adjusted cap for the Jaguars
(includes $700,000 in estimated ‘06 LTBEs). The league salary
cap is reportedly $102 mil, but it’s believed the league added
roughly $3 mil to the Jaguars cap when adjusting for 2005 incentives
results.
With Leftwich and Darius placed on IR, and with
Richardson and Sharon activated from the Practice Squad, the Jaguars
roster consists of 53 signed players and 8 Practice Squad players
with 14 players on IR. In early-to-mid November, Chad Owens and
Stanley were waived as Hawkins was placed on IR with Pettway, Wyche,
and Fudge replacing them on the roster. October saw Peterson placed
on IR with Carroll signed in his place as Brian Jones and Patterson
were moved from the Waived-Injured List to IR. In the opening weeks
of the regular season, Montavious Stanley and Iwuh were signed to the
active roster after placing Hayward and Thomas on IR. Connolly and
Davis were placed on IR as Alexis, Curry, Economos, Estandia,
Fletcher, Fudge, George, Gibbons, Hunter, Hymes, Iwuh, Maddox,
McCullough, Richardson, Romberg, Sharon, Snell, Stamps, Wyche, and
Yoder were waived in the second round of cuts. In the the first round
of cuts, Greg Jones, Mike Williams, Tony Williams, and Roberson were
placed on IR, and Brian Jones and Patterson were placed on the
waived-injured list, the day after Troy Edwards, Marler, and Huggins
were waived. A week before the first round of cuts, Estandia and
Huggins re-signed as Gowin and Kahlil Hill were waived. Early August
brought about the signing of Marler and Snell as Huggins, Pinegar,
and Carlos Joseph were released. Greg Estandia was claimed off
waivers in early July and then released a few weeks later along with
Omari Hand shortly before the Jaguars signed their six draft picks
and extended Spicer's contract for an additional year. In May the
team signed Troy Edwards, Randy Hymes, and Toby Gowin, claimed Wayne
Hunter off waivers, and waived James Kinney and Brandon Twito while
Jimmy Smith retired. Collier, Fudge, George, Gibbons, Huggins, Iwuh,
McCullough, McDaniel, M. Owens, Pinegar, Sharon and Twito were picked
up as UDFAs immediately after the Jaguars drafted Lewis, Drew,
Ingram, Hawkins, Wyche, and Webb were drafted. In addition to Greisen
signing, April saw RFAs Manuwai, Wrighster, Hankton, and Toefield,
and EFAs Gray, Romberg, and Richardson signing their tenders. In late
March the Jaguars signed Boselli to a new contract so he could
officially retire 24 hours later, and they also extended Henderson’s
contract through 2011. Brian Williams, Mike Williams, and McDougle
signed contracts during the first week of free agency while Cousin,
Wiley, and tendered EFA Brian Jones re-signed. Just prior to the free
agency, the Jaguars re-signed Meier and Gilbert and waived Lee Webb.
In February they signed Norman, T. Williams, Patterson, and Joseph.
The team signed eight rookies and first-year players mostly from
their Practice Squad—Curry, Economos, Hand, Hill, Kinney,
Owens, Stamps, and Webb--at the start of the offseason.
Position
designations are being updated according to Preseason line-ups. The
notation "R" simply means that the player is either a draft
pick or is earning the rookie minimum salary. Players allocated to

Compensatory Draft
Pick Consideration
The basic formula for determining how many
compensatory draft picks the NFL gives each team is to take the
amount of "UFA's lost" (on another team's roster) and then
subtract the amount of "UFA's gained," although the formula
is highly dependent on contract values and factors in playing time
and postseason honors.
For 2005, the UFAs lost last year were
Fernando Bryant, Danny Clark, Jamar Nesbit, and Leander Jordan. The
UFAs gained were Deon Grant, Greg Favors, Juran Bolden, Tommy
Hendricks, and Todd Yoder. That’s 5 UFAs gained and only 4
lost, which in the end meant that the Jaguars did not get any
compensation.
The Jaguars won’t get any compensation for
the 2006 draft because Bob Whitfield was the only UFA they
lost.
Looking ahead to next year, so far this offseason the
Jaguars have gained Brian Williams, McDougle, Greisen, and Hymes
while having lost Ayodele, Wright, Winborn, Cooper, Pearson, and
Salaam. Mike Williams and Troy Edwards do not count as UFAs gained
because the Bills released him, but we’re already plus two
meaning we may actually get a couple seventh round comp picks next
year. Brian Williams signing bonus will prevent any chance of higher
round picks.
