JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 2007 ROSTER - 9/4/07

I'm keeping this updated roster and cap estimate somewhere on the board at all times. Return to this post (if it's buried, just search for a lesser known player) anytime you want to see what the latest roster and salary cap figure looks like, as I edit it often.

Having signed Aaron Glenn and released Leftwich the Jaguars are estimated at roughly $18 mil under an estimated $117 mil adjusted cap for the Jaguars (includes $2,000,000 in estimated ‘06 LTBEs). The league salary cap is reportedly $109 mil, but it’s believed the league added roughly $8 mil to the Jaguars cap when adjusting for 2006 incentives results.

With Glenn signed and Tuten Reyes released, the Jaguars roster consists of 53 signed players, 6 players on IR, 1 player on PUP, and 9 Practice Squad member. August concluded with the release of Anoai, K. Coley, Connolly, Curry, Fudge, Gattis, Gibbons, Greisen, T. King, Landrom, Leftwich, R. Manning, McMahon, Moulton, Payne, Sharon, Smolko, Thornton and Webb, with Pearman traded, and with Walker and Wyche placed on IR. Chris Claiborne was waived and Roy Manning was signed a few days after Carnahan, Cordova, Farris, Kiser, Mincey, Ricard, Sorensen, Terry, Wiggins, Wimbush and Woods were released in the first round of cuts. Just prior to the first round of cuts, Elling was waived and Gilbert was placed on IR as Claiborne, Kevis Coley and Anoai signed. Tuten Reyes, Seth Payne and Tyler King signed as Couch and Brett Goode were released. Knight replaced McCadam on the roster a few days before McDougle was placed on IR. Early August saw the release of Yelk followed by Eric Wilber and Chris Jackson both being signed and then released before the Jaguars settled on Aaron Elling. Landri, Nkang and Walker signed just before the start of camp along with Tim Couch as Dan Parrish was waived and Chris Roberson and Anthony Pudewell were placed on IR. Brian Smith, Wrighster and Gray were placed on the PUP in late July, but Wrighster and Gray returned to the roster a couple weeks later. The end of June saw Nkang and Carnahan sign rookie contracts along with McCray finally signing his tender. During the final weeks of OTAs the Jaguars released Darius while signing Gattis, Nwaneri, Podlesh and Broussard. In early June the team signed Angulo, Smolko, and Bruce Smith while releasing Murray and Richardson. By mid-May the Jaguars had released Hanson and Carroll, and had signed Farris, Thornton, and Moulton. Cordova, Wilford and Gray all re-signed shortly before the Jaguars selected their 11 draft picks (Nelson, Durant, M. Walker, Podlesh, Gattis, B. Smith, Nwaneri, Landri, Broussard, Nkang and Carnahan) and 7 subsequent UDFAs (Kiser, Murray, Parish, Pudewell, Ricard, Terry and Woods). Brett Goode was offered a UDFA contract, but I believe he failed his physical. Wiggins, McAdam and Yelk signed, and Toefield, Gilbert, Carroll, Wimbush and Pettway all resigned in early April. In the opening days of free agency, the Jaguars signed Pashos and Northcutt, and re-signed Scobee. The offseason began with the signing of five former Practice Squad players: Curry, Estandia, Gibbons, McMahon and Landrom. Jeremy Mincey was the last player signed in 2006.

Position designations are being updated according to Preseason line-ups. The notation "R" simply means that the player is either a draft pick or is earning the rookie minimum salary. Players allocated to NFL Europe have their team in parentheses …

Compensatory Draft Pick Consideration

The basic formula for determining how many compensatory draft picks the NFL gives each team is to take the amount of "UFA's lost" (on another team's roster) and then subtract the amount of "UFA's gained," although the formula is highly dependent on contract values and factors in playing time and postseason honors.

Looking at this year’s draft, the Jaguars last year gained Brian Williams, McDougle and Greisen while having lost Ayodele, Wright, Winborn, Cooper, Pearson, and Salaam. Mike Williams and Troy Edwards did not count as UFAs gained because the Bills released him. This left the Jaguars with a net loss resulting in two seventh round comp picks (#251 and #252 overall). Brian Williams signing bonus prevented any chance of higher round picks.

Looking at next year, so far the Jaguars have gained Pashos, Northcutt and Wiggins while losing Brady, Grant and Hankton. As is stands, the Jaguars are looking at no comp picks in ‘08.
